๐Ÿ“ข Community Update: Storm Recovery Efforts Underway

In December 2025, a severe winter storm caused significant damage to several Hesperia Recreation and Park District facilities, including Percy Bakker Community Center, Timberlane Park, and Hesperia Lake Park.

These parks and facilities are more than buildings and open space โ€” they are places where our community gathers for youth programs, senior activities, sports, events, and family recreation. Restoring them is one of our top priorities.

The District is currently working to secure recovery funding at the county, state, and federal level. Each of these programs has different requirements and approval processes, and many disaster recovery programs must first prioritize the most urgent regional infrastructure and public safety needs before moving forward with park and facility repairs.

In order to qualify for federal disaster recovery funding, certain work must also be prioritized that focuses on preserving life and reducing potential liability, including improvements and repairs related to stormwater infrastructure and catch basins. Addressing these critical safety components is an important step in protecting the community and ensuring the District meets federal program requirements.

While temporary fixes might allow limited use sooner, the District is committed to doing this the right way โ€” not the quick way.

Our goal is to restore the lake, parks, and community centers to full operationย with long-term improvementsย that protect these facilities from future storm damage. This approach helps protect the public investment in these spaces and reduces the risk of the same damage occurring again.

We understand how important these spaces are to our residents, and we appreciate the communityโ€™s patience and supportย as we work through the recovery process.
